Partial dentures are indicated when there are enough teeth to support a removable appliance. A partial denture is meant to replace missing teeth and is supported by resting on the gums and is also supported by anchor teeth. Even though it is removable, it still allows for function and proper speech.

When there are no teeth left in the arch, a full denture is needed. A denture replaces the entire set of dentition on the top, bottom, or both. It rests on the top and bottom arch and is held in place by suction against the gums and roof of the mouth. Sometimes, a full denture is supported by implants. In this case, a minimum of 3 implants would be placed into the bone and then a denture is made to attach to the implants for support and retention.
